Microsoft Updates IE9 Beta for Reliability

Microsoft Updates IE9 Beta for Reliability

One of the drawbacks to using a beta version of any software is that it’s typically updated when the next beta release comes along. The nice, but overlooked thing about Windows Update is that Microsoft can update both Windows and other programs and peripherals on your system “on the fly”. As far as I know, this was not to be the case for the new Internet Explorer 9, but unexpectedly, Microsoft pushed out an update for the beta version of IE9, just yesterday.

If you have all of your updates setup to install automatically, then you need not do a thing, but if you do everything manually, you will need to run Windows Update and find the updated labeled ‘KB2448827′. The update, in Microsoft’s own words:
Microsoft has released an update for Windows Internet Explorer 9 Beta. This update improves the reliability of Internet Explorer 9 Beta in various scenarios.
That’s pretty broad, but hopefully we’ll see some of the “inconsistencies” of IE9 worked out with this fix.
Requirements for the update are:
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 2
  • Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
For the most part, IE9 has worked admirably for a beta version, but there are definitely issues and some inconsistencies which need to be worked out before it goes final early next year. This update will fly under the radar for most users.
