We’ve seen a device like this before with the limited edition Toshiba Libretto W100 a couple of months ago. Now though Acer have released a larger Windows 7 laptop-style device with dual touchscreens.
The device is certainly interesting to look at but how practical it will be in real-world use remains to be seen. The advantage of the libretto is that it could be held like a normal hardback book. The Acer comes with a pair of 14″ screens, which will make it far too large and heavy to hold upright without having to rest it on your lap.
It’s still the weight at 6.18 pounds that will let this machine down. Though in scenarios where cleanliness and hygiene is essential, such as medical applications, the absence of a standard keyboard, and the inclusion of a wipe-clean screen, could be a major plus if inadvertantly a cause of RSI.
We’ll wait to see how well this sells, but it’s delightful to see so many innovative new PC designs appearing on the wings of netbooks and tablets. There’s no word on price yet, though we can expect this to be at the higher end of the price ladder.
