A blog post from UK phone retailer MobilesPlease paints a bleak picture for the recently introduced Windows Phone 7 mobile OS: at this particular chain, the new Windows handsets are apparently being outsold by Symbian handsets at a rate of about three to one, and are being overwhelmingly turned down in favor of similar Android phones.

Happy 25th Anniversary Microsoft Windows
Yup, time really does fly and today, 20th November 2010 is the 25th anniversary of the launch of Windows 1.0. This was Microsoft’s first stab at a multi-tasking graphical user interface and had four versions. 1.02 was released in May the following year with the final version 1.04 coming out in April 1987.
The GUI, because it wasn’t an operating system at that time, ran on top of MS DOS and didn’t come to the mainstream public’s attention until the release of Windows 3 in May 1990.

Keyboard shortcuts, which also known as accelerator keys or hotkeys, are a finite set of one key or a combination of two or more keys that, when pressed, will invoke an operation or perform a task by operating system or application program running within the operating system, or simply activate and run a program. Keyboard shortcuts or hot keys make it easier for user to interact with computer, which otherwise would typically require a mouse or other pointing device to perform the operation.

There’s been a great deal of concern over the update policy for Microsoft’s new smartphone OS. Initially it was understood that Microsoft would push updates directly to users. News later emerged however that carriers would be able to delay updates while they confirmed they would work with handsets and any bespoke software the carriers had added.

I didn’t realize how much of a demand there was for Microsoft’s Kinect until I spent all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday running from store to store trying to find one. I figured that the Kinect’s ability to track the user and movement was more of a “game changer” to the future of computing than Xbox gaming, but I was wrong. Here I sit and I still cannot find a retailer who is currently carrying the device. At my local BestBuy, there sits an empty pallet where Kinect used to be displayed next to a cage full of locked up iPads.

OpenStack Is available for Windows Server 2008
Microsoft announced that it is in collaboration ageement with Cloud.com to provide integration and support to the Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V as part of the OpenStack project. This is an open source cloud-computing platform. By using OpenStack organizations and service providers will be able to run a mix of Microsoft and non-Microsoft infrastructure products with greater flexibility.

No more XP pre-loads as from today
The days of Windows XP are drawing to a close as from today, the 1st anniversary of the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft will not allow any more new PCs to come pre-loaded with the venerable old operating system.
Netbooks were the very last category to be allowed to carry XP, as reported today by Mary-Jo Foley, but back in 2008, Microsoft told OEM partners that the 22nd October would be the final curtain call.
