Microsoft and Apple are constantly running a never ending ad campaign against each other, with each ad jeering at the other. Of course this is to be expected but now Microsoft have got a new ad for Windows 7, unlike anything I’ve seen before.
Turns out that Windows and Mac just want to be friends, this latest advertisement is a stop-motion animation of a Windows 7 laptop on a long flight with a Mac. They seem to be friends and getting along well, however the PC plans on watching “Avatar” on Blu-ray, which happens to be built in.
“What is that?” the Mac asks as the movie starts. “Oh, it’s Blu-ray,” the Windows 7 machine responds. “It’s built in.”
This is a direct hit at Mac which can’t support Blu-ray discs due to licensing issues, according to Steve Jobs. There’s also another little hit at Mac at the end. The advert has a mock rating of “PC” and states that “no Macs were used in the making of this video”
Why is this of any significance? Well in Microsoft’s “I’m a PC” campaign, Microsoft were criticizing Macs, but the irony of it was that the Windows advert was actually made using Macs!
