The Quantum is also a slider phone, but has a full Qwerty keyboard for its thickness. Many negative reviews note the smaller screen size than its competitors, but praise the Qwerty keyboard as being on of the best hardware keyboards available. The general consensus is that if you require a hardware keyboard, then you will want this phone, but if not, there is certainly more upside to purchasing a device with a larger screen.
Windows Phone 7 is doing well and most retailers I’ve been to say they are either out of devices or running short. Online retailers seem to have devices in stock, especially At&t’s HTC Surround and LG Quantum. In the US, the Samsung Focus seems to be the clear favorite and most sites and stores are completely sold out. However, if you are looking to get into the new Windows Phone 7, but do not want to wait for availability and want to get into WP7 inexpensively, you’re in luck.
Amazon Wireless Beta is offering both the HTC Surround and LG Quantum for .01 cent with a new 2-year contract. Both phones have had decent reviews and have features which distinguish one from the other.
The question remains: Is it worth it? It’s going to depend on which kind of smartphone user you are. Just like there is no one OS or one computer out there for everyone, there is not one phone for everyone. It’s important to find a phone that meets your needs and both offer something different for each user:
