Microsoft Offers Browser Choice Ballot in Europe

According to the legal agreement between Microsoft and European Commission, Microsoft has to offer the browser ballot to European users which allows them to select the web browser of their choice instead of using Internet Explorer as the default web browser with new Windows 7 OS.

So, now according to Microsoft’s commitment the company is going to roll-out the browser choice ballet screen to EU users of Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 in next week whereas the testing process for the update is already underway in some countries including Belgium, France and The UK and the full scale roll-out across Europe will commence around March 1, 2010.

According Microsoft’s vice president and deputy general counsel, Dave Heiner’s official blog post:
“Users who get the choice screen will be free to choose any browser or stick with the browser they have, as they prefer.”
In the browser ballot scree some of the other alternative browsers with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer will be Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera etc.
Although until now Internet Explorer is the mostly used web browser by internet users but this option of browser ballot screen for EU users will open more marketing opportunities for IE rivals.
